Meghan Maceiko, Director of Grants & Impact, and Steve Adams, President of the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, recently visited the senior program at the Spanish American Center, stopping by on a day full of energy, laughter, and connection. 

The seniors were in the middle of a bingo game when Meghan and Steve arrived, and it wasn't long before the room shifted from bingo cards to music. Members of the group got up to dance and sing together, filling the space with the kind of warmth that makes the Spanish American Center's senior program such a vital gathering place for the community. 

The visit continued over lunch, where the group shared a meal featuring Uruguayan favorites, a nod to the cultural traditions that many participants carry with them. Sharing food, like sharing music, has a way of bringing people together, and the lunch table was no exception. 

"This program is a safe space where seniors can reconnect with old friends and welcome new ones into the fold," said Steve. "That sense of belonging is exactly why this kind of programming matters." 

The senior program at the Spanish American Center offers older adults in the region a place to gather, stay active, and maintain the social connections that support healthy aging. Programming like this, rooted in community and culture, reflects the kind of work the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts is proud to support. 

For Meghan and Steve, the afternoon was a reminder of why this work matters: not just the numbers behind a grant, but the people, music, and shared meals that make a program come alive.
