Last month, several of our staff and trustees had the pleasure of visiting LaunchSpace in Orange—a vibrant community makerspace that is sparking innovation and fueling local economic growth. This creative hub offers workshop space and specialized equipment for residents to bring their ideas to life, provides free educational training for youth and adults, and supports entrepreneurs in launching and growing their businesses.

Through the Career Readiness and Educational Access grant program, the Community Foundation recently awarded LaunchSpace a $10,000 grant for its Creative Sector Engage Program. This initiative offers youth ages 16–24 hands-on training in tools, techniques, machinery, entrepreneurship, and workforce development—equipping them with the skills and confidence to thrive in the creative economy.

Like many valuable programs in our region, LaunchSpace has felt the impact of recent federal and state funding cuts. Executive Director Brianna Drohen explained:

“In July, we received notice that this program was cut by 50% across the state, creating significant challenges for youth workforce readiness programs like ours. Your $10,000 award makes it possible for us to run the program on a shoestring budget and, most importantly, not disappoint the students who are already looking forward to participating this September.”

During our visit, we saw firsthand the difference this program makes. From pottery wheels spinning, to woodworking projects taking shape, to sparks flying in the metal arts studio—youth and adults alike were immersed in learning, creating, and building their futures.

Donor support makes these moments possible. By investing in LaunchSpace, we are helping ensure that local talent has the space, tools, and guidance they need to succeed—and that our region’s creative spirit continues to flourish.
